Marius van Niekerk of Kathu and Brakpan's Henry Tiedemann have claimed top honours in "CAR magazine's 2003 Mechanic of the Year" competition sponsored by NGK spark plugs.

Marius van Niekerk of Kathu and Brakpan's Henry Tiedemann have claimed top honours in "CAR magazine's 2003 Mechanic of the Year" competition sponsored by NGK spark plugs.


The final round of the competition was held at the Johannesburg Technical College earlier this year and the practical part of the judging process took place on Saturday.


Van Niekierk was adjudged the winner of the Professional Mechanic category and received R15 000. Second place (R12 000) went to Shaun Lloyd-Finn of Northam, and third place (R8 000) to Pierre Rossouw of Upington.


In the amateur section, Francois Roux finished second and Dietrich Schubert third. Both live in Cape Town. They received the same prize money as the professionals.
