There have been various reports that controversial BMW design chief Chris Bangle is about to leave the Munich-based company. We now have the complete story.

Contrary to persistent rumours, Bangle will not be leaving the company, after 11 years of service. According to , the Munich-based manufacturer has reorganised its development departments into brand-specific design studios for BMW, Mini, Rolls-Royce, Motorrad, and M and Individual.

The new studios, now overseen by group design director Bangle, will be involved in the development of new models from the first sketches to the start of production and will receive support from cross-brand specialist departments like model technology.

Adrian van Hooydonk, former president of BMW's US studio, DesignworksUSA and designer of the 6 Series, will head the BMW studio. The other heads of studio will be: Gert Volker Hildebrand (Mini), Ian Cameron (Rolls-Royce), David Robb (Motorrad) and Ulf Weidhase (M and Individual).
