Fiat will follow sister brand Alfa Romeo into a works return to SA national circuit racing when three Palio special series cars enter Class C of the SA Production Cars championship at Killarney.

CARtoday.com reported in February that Alfa Romeo would field a factory-backed team including two 147 GTAs in the SA production car series this year.

And on Saturday, it will be Fiat's turn to make an official return and the occasion will the Round Two of the Vodacom Power Tour. Last year, a few passionate staff members of Fiat Auto SA decided to run a Fiat Palio in the regional Superhatch series. The team, managed by Chris Botes and Theunis Eloff, went on to win the 2003 Class C championship.

Mosport, an Italian team entrenched in national motorsport through the exploits of the Alfa Romeo Squadra Corse GTAs, has become the title sponsor of the Palio Racing Team.

The cars will be prepared by Mosport team manager and veteran saloon racing driver Mike 'O Sullivan. He will pilot the Fiat Palio Gala (C107). Eloff, who won the regional Class C Superhatch championship last year, will drive the Palio Blu (C111) and experienced superbike racer Brad Annasis, the Palio Rosso (C123).
