The updated Alpina B7 has been revealed, with the Buchloe-based firm basing its latest model on the facelifted 7 Series sedan.
Under the B7’s bonnet you’ll find BMW’s latest twin-turbo 4,4-litre V8 petrol engine, which in the standard 750i is worth 390 kW. But thanks to some (hardware and software) fettling, the Alpina version churns out a whopping 447 kW and 800 N.m.
The company claims this increase in power and torque (crucially, at lower engine revolutions) combines with a “thoroughly reworked” ZF-sourced transmission and further-tweaked xDrive all-wheel-drive system to afford the Alpina B7 a zero to 100 km/h time of just 3,6 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h.
The exhaust side of each turbocharger is now equipped with a 54 mm (previously 50 mm) diameter impeller, while Alpina-specific intercoolers feature an interconnection to equalise and reduce pressure pulsations between the two cylinder banks of the V8.
A special Alpina sport+ driving mode, meanwhile, adjusts various vehicle, drivetrain and suspension settings for “maximum dynamic performance”, lowing the ride height by some 15 mm.
Alpina has also fitted a new stainless steel sports exhaust system that it says reduces both back pressure and weight. Active exhaust valves allow the driver to change the sound, while the tailpipes are integrated into the new rear bumper.
The updated Alpina B7 is fitted with Michelin performance rubber measuring 255/40 ZR20 at the front and 295/35 ZR20 at the rear. Optional 21-inch wheels are also offered. In addition, the firm has revised the 7 Series sedan’s braking system, which now utilises brake-by-wire technology, adding four-piston fixed callipers fore and floating items aft (along with larger discs).
While BMW's massive kidney grille remains, Alpina has added a new front bumper with "functional" air intakes, free-floating "Alpina" lettering and "horizontal character lines", along with a fresh rear spoiler. Inside, the company has added various subtle details, such as a sports steering wheel with blue-and-green stitching, hand-finished in Lavalina leather.
