BMW South Africa has confirmed the second BMW M Festival will take place at Kyalami in Johannesburg from 26 to 27 October 2019.
The local arm of the Munich-based firm says six M and M Performance models will celebrate their local premieres at the event.
At the 2019 version, visitors will have the opportunity to book test drives, experience hot laps with professional drivers and walk through a pop-up showroom, as well as enjoy gourmet food trucks, stalls and drinks.
South Africa’s very own Sheldon van der Linde is expected to make a special appearance, treating visitors to hot laps in his Shell BMW M4 DTM. There will also be live music, a children’s play area and a BMW Lifestyle merchandise shop. Furthermore, the restored 530 MLE will be revealed.
So, which new M-badged products can you expect to see at the event? Well, the X3 M Competition and X4 M Competition will both be there, along with the new M340i xDrive sedan. The new 1 Series will also make an appearance (no doubt in M135i xDrive guise), as will a model at the other end of the range, the 8 Series Gran Coupé (surely wearing the M850i badge). Finally, the new X6 will be in attendance, likely in M50i and M50d forms.
“We are excited to host another BMW M Festival. This is proving to be an effective experiential platform for our customers and fans. Even with the current headwinds in the economic markets and automotive industry, South Africa continues to be one of the top performers in the world in terms of BMW M market share and sales,” said Tim Abbott, CEO of BMW Group SA and Sub-Saharan Africa.
“This year has been the year of rolling out our product offensive. The BMW M Festival is the perfect platform to unleash our thrilling and luxurious products. I can assure our customers and fans that we will deliver another memorable BMW M Festival this year,” he added.
BMW says “just under 20 000” people attended the first M Festival in 2017, before the brand took a break in 2018.
