The driver of a Porsche Boxster Spyder has reportedly been trapped speeding at 218 km/h on the N3 in Johannesburg, later claiming he was late for a game of Golf.

According to TimesLive, the 35-year-old was nabbed on the N3 between the Geldenhuys interchange and the Rand Airport off-ramp. He was driving what appeared to be a white 987-generation Boxster Spyder ... without a rear numberplate.

Wilfred Kgasago, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department spokesperson chief superintendent, told the publication the man was trapped at about 06:10 on Sunday morning.

"The arrested driver claimed that he was late for a golf game‚" Kgasago added.

The Boxster Spyder driver – along with a Toyota driver caught at 177 km/h, an Alfa Romeo driver nabbed at 175 km/h and a Mini driver caught at 168 km/h – was detained at the Germiston police station on charges of reckless and negligent driving.

All four drivers were later released on bail, according to TimesLive.
