The new Mercedes-Benz B-Class has arrived in South Africa, with the local range comprising just a pair of derivatives at launch.
Of course, we brought you local pricing as long ago as the first week of April 2019, but we’ll share it here again.
The B200 is priced from R526 900 and draws its urge from a turbocharged 1,3-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, which sends 120 kW and 250 N.m to the front axle via a seven-speed automatic transmission. Benz claims this derivative will hit three figures from standstill in 8,2 seconds, before topping out at 223 km/h.
Meanwhile, the B200d employs a 2,0-litre turbodiesel engine generating 110 kW and 320 N.m. This oil-burning engine is connected to the front wheels by a new eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and facilitates a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint of 8,3 seconds and a top speed of 219 km/h. It is priced from R559 100.
The list of options includes an AMG Line styling package (R50 175), various alloy wheels (measuring up to 19 inches in diameter), a panoramic sliding sunroof (R19 400), trailer coupling (R13 600) and plenty more.
First revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October 2018 (with production commencing the following month at Plant Rastatt), the third-generation B-Class boasts a fresh design, a more advanced cabin and a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (for the aforementioned diesel model, that is).
