Mahindra South Africa has announced the arrival of updated versions of its S6-badged Pik Up single-cab bakkie.
As before, the S6 slots in above the “workhorse” S4 models and below the broader double-cab range, and is again offered in 4×2 or 4×4 guise. The Pik Up S6 single-cab 4×2 is priced at R266 499, while the 4×4 variant comes in at R311 499. In both cases, that’s an increase of R5 000 over the outgoing versions.
So, what’s new? Well, the single-cab S6 adopts the design changes that debuted on the S11 automatic-equipped double-cab bakkie, and have since also trickled down to the S10 double-cab models.
The most obvious change is the revised grille, which is flanked by redesigned headlamps now fitted with clear indicator lenses and orange indicator bulbs. The S6 also features a reworked front bumper, complete with integrated foglamps and new chrome detailing.
The Indian firm says it has furthermore redesigned the S6’s styling bar (which is bolted onto the load bay) for “added rigidity and improved tie-down capabilities”. Mahindra has also added an electric locking mechanism to the fuel cap, which allows for remote opening.
Inside, the S6 gains electric adjustment for the side mirrors, one-touch lane-change indicators and cruise control. These single-cab variants furthermore receive an upgraded seat design, complete with arm rests for both occupants and height adjustment for the driver. Finally, the key fob has been replaced with a flip key with integrated remote.
Mahindra says all S6 boast standard items such as rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, a start-stop system, an audio system, dual airbags, central locking, ABS and air conditioning.
Under the bonnet, nothing’s changed, which means the S6 range is still powered by Mahindra’s 2,2-litre mHawk turbodiesel engine, delivering 103 kW at 3 750 r/min and 320 N.m from 1 500 to 2 800 r/min.
A four-year/120 000 km warranty and a five-year/90 000 km service plan are again included, the latter with 20 000 km intervals (after the initial 10 000 km lubrication service, that is).
