We recently brought you local pricing for the 190 kW version of the Volkswagen Amarok V6 double-cab bakkie. And now VW South Africa has released official details.
Interestingly, the pair of 190 kW variants (the R908 300 Highline and the R974 600 Extreme; the latter on our list of SA’s most expensive bakkies) will hit the market only in November 2020. But when they do, they will effectively replace the 165 kW versions.
As we’ve already pointed out, the most powerful Amarok employs a 3,0-litre V6 TDI engine sending 190 kW (from 3 000 to 4 500 r/min) and 580 N.m (between 1 400 and 2 750 r/min) to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. An overboost function sees peak power pushed to 200 kW for 10-second bursts.
The result, says the Wolfsburg-based firm, is a sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in 7,6 seconds and a top speed of 207 km/h. VW SA claims an average fuel consumption of 9,5 L/100 km.
In South Africa, the 190 kW Amarok will be available in Candy White, Mojave Beige, Indium Grey metallic and Deep Black Pearl Effect exterior colours.
The Highline model will feature Vienna leather seats (with a heating function), heavy-duty leaf springs, Bi-Xenon headlamps, parking sensors (front and rear), a rear-view camera, air-conditioning and 18-inch “Manaus” alloy wheels. Highline buyers can optionally upgrade to the Discover Pro Media system, which includes satellite navigation. Rubber floor covering and 19-inch “Milford” alloys are also available as extras.
Extreme models gain Nappa leather seats, the Discover Pro Media system and 20-inch “Talca” alloys. Here, heavy-duty leaf springs are optional, as are rubber floor covering and a body-coloured sports bar.
A three-year/100 000 km warranty and five-year/90 000 km service plan (with intervals of 15 000 km) are included.
