Russia-based company Aviar plans to give the iconic 1967 Ford Mustang a completely new lease on life with this R67 project.
The restomod project sees the fossil fuel-burning powertrain ripped out and replaced by a fully electric system from the Tesla Model S.
Sending power to all four wheels are two electric motors (one on each axle), drawing 626 kW from a low-sited 100 kWh battery. Using this system, Aviar says the R67 will be able to achieve a 0-100 km/h time of 2,2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. A maximum range of 507 km is claimed. While a silent powertrain, the R67 attempts to stay true to its Mustang roots with a simulated V8 engine note pumped out through an external sound system.
A carbon-fibre frame with reinforced elements helps recreate the iconic shape. Aviar has updated the exterior design of the Mustang with improved aerodynamics by applying an active rear spoiler, which deploys at 120 km/h. It can also be lifted on command with the push of a button in the cabin. At the front sits a splitter which limits airflow under the chassis, while the rear dons a diffuser.
The R67 rides on forged alloy wheels wrapped in 245/40 R20 front and 305/30 R20 rear Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. Accompanying this is an adaptive air suspension offering a ground clearance ranging from 119 mm to 192 mm.
The Mustang’s interior has been completely reimagined, with comfort in mind. Equipment such as white leather bucket seats, a multifunction steering wheel, a digital gauge, a portrait touchscreen infotainment system, LED ambient lighting, climate control, six-airbags and Wi-Fi have been fitted. Natural light enters the cabin through a panoramic sunroof.
