Lamborghini’s Squadra Corse division has already teased its special Aventador-based project which it promised would sport the brand’s most powerful V12 to date. Now, it has finally arrived in the shape of the Essenza SCV12.
Limited to just 40 units, the SCV12 will be produced for track use only as it boasts prototype-inspired aerodynamics with new technical solutions designed for the "ultimate" driving experience. The heart of the newcomer is the naturally aspirated 6,5-litre V12 which pushes 610 kW to the rear wheels via an X-trac six-speed sequential gearbox. A vicious soundtrack is provided by a Capristo exhaust system, which also reduces back pressure.
Boasting a new-generation carbon-fibre monocoque chassis with no internal rollcage, the SCV12 offers an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 1,22 kW per kg. It’s also the first GT car to be developed in adherence to the FIA’s prototype safety rules.
Providing impressive lateral ability, the SCV12 adopts a push-rod rear suspension arrangement installed directly on the gearbox. Complementing this is a set of slick Pirelli tyres wrapped round 19-inch front and 20-inch rear magnesium rims. Stopping power has been provided by Brembo’s motorsport division.
With this being a track car, the SCV12 has been designed with downforce in mind. The bonnet bears a double air-intake with a central rib which separates the hot airflow coming from the radiator and sends the cold air to the airscoop located on the roof. This design element is found on the Huracán racecars as well. At the front sits a splitter with two lateral elements.
As a means to divert airflow to the engine and gearbox for cooling, vertical fins have been installed on the side sills. At the rear, a large adjustable double-profile wing completes the aerodynamic package. Using these elements, the SCV12 is capable of achieving 1 200 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, says Lamborghini.
The Italian firm has confirmed SCV12 customers will be part of an exclusive club which allows access to special driving programmes. This includes storage facilities in a new hangar located in Sant’Agata with each car having a personalised garage with dedicated services including a webcam system that will allow owners to monitor their cars at any hour of the day. The driving programme calendar will commence at the beginning of 2021 and will be held at numerous FIA Grade 1 homologated circuits.
