Volkswagen South Africa has quietly added a menacing new “Black Style” package to its range of options for the Touareg.
The package is offered as a R39 900 option on the flagship Executive trim level (and thus not the Luxury specification), which already features the popular R-Line package as standard.
The Black Style package includes blacked-out chrome elements (including the grille), black roof rails, gloss-black side-mirror caps and black 21-inch “Suzuka” alloy wheels. VW SA says it will be offered in combination with “selected colours only”.
As a reminder, the Touareg Executive is priced from R1 221 500 (some R154 100 more than the Luxury derivative) and draws 190 kW and 600 N.m from its 3,0 TDI V6 engine, which is mated to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Touareg runs on the MLB Evo platform also underpinning the likes of the Audi Q7 (and Q8), Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus. And that, according to VW, allows this new model to weigh in a considerable 106 kg lighter than its predecessor.
It measures 4 878 mm long, which makes it some 77 mm longer than the second-generation model. Furthermore, the Touareg comes in at 44 mm wider than before while its roof is 7 mm closer to the ground at 1 702 mm. With the rear seats in place, VW claims luggage capacity of 810 litres, which is 113 litres more than before.
Various other options are offered locally, including air suspension, the fully digital "Innovision Cockpit" (comprising a 12-inch instrument cluster and a 15-inch centrally mounted display), an uprated sound system, four-wheel steering and various safety features (from a head-up display to night vision).
