Porsche recently partially revealed its new Taycan's dashboard. But now the Zuffenhausen-based firm has fully uncovered the electric vehicle’s interior … and it includes an optional touchscreen display for the front passenger.
The German company’s first all-electric vehicle is set to be fully unveiled in September, boasting all-wheel-drive, more than 440 kW, an 800-volt architecture and a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of "around 90 kWh".
Porsche says the new cabin features classic design traits (largely inspired by the original 911's dashboard from 1963) that have been “reinterpreted and brought into the digital age”.
There’s a 16,8-inch free-standing, curved instrument cluster at the highest point on the facia which interestingly does without cowl (Porsche says “real glass and a vapour-deposited, polarising filter” lend it anti-reflective properties). The cluster features four distinct display modes and small “touch-control fields” at its edges for operating light and chassis functions. Interestingly, the Taycan does without a traditional gear lever, instead employing a compact selector switch (like the 918 Spyder) next to this instrument panel.
Two steering wheel designs will be offered. In addition to the basic version, which can be customised with coloured inserts as part of the accent package, Porsche will also offer a GT sports steering wheel option featuring visible screw-heads and a round mode switch.
At the centre of the facia you’ll find a 10,9-inch infotainment display, which can be combined with an optional passenger display (the latter allowing the front passenger to “easily alter settings without distracting the driver”) under an integrated glass panel.
The elevated centre console, meanwhile, features an 8,4-inch touch panel (where air-conditioning controls, for example, are found) with haptic feedback. If the optional four-zone automatic climate control system has been specified, an additional 5,9-inch touch control panel with haptic feedback allows the system to be operated from the rear seats, too.
