Leaked images of the new Volkswagen Golf 8 R have emerged online, giving us our best look yet at the design of the all-paw hot hatch’s wheels, tailpipes and steering wheel.
While we’ve already seen videos of the new Golf R undergoing testing, these latest images posted to Instagram by accounts such as @cochespias and @wilcoblok provide a little more detail.
Indeed, we get a close look at the hot hatch’s four tailpipes (Akrapovič, perhaps?), which are framed by a gloss-black diffuser. The tailgate, meanwhile, wears the Wolfsburg-based firm’s latest logo, with the new “R” insignia positioned below it.
A second image shows one of the alloy wheel designs that looks set to be available on the Golf 8 R, along with branded blue brake callipers.
What else? Well, a third photograph gives us a peek at the steering wheel, which features blue highlights, large paddle shifters and what appear to be touch-sensitive controls ahead of a digital instrument cluster.
In March 2020, the head of Volkswagen’s high-performance R division said the new Golf 8 R would feature “technology nobody expects”. A couple of months earlier, a leaked slide suggested the Golf R would offer 245 kW from its EA888 2,0-litre TSI engine.
