Earlier this year, Volkswagen released a teaser video of a high-performance version of the T-Roc (watch how the prototype is taken to task round the Nürburgring Nordschleife here). Now, the Wolfsburg-based automaker has lifted the wraps off its R-badged crossover.
The T-Roc R is powered by a 2,0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine, which produces a whopping 221 kW and 400 N.m of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via the brand's familiar seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Volkswagen claims this hot crossover is capable of reaching the 100 km/h mark from standstill in a mere 4,9 seconds before topping out at a (electronically limited) 250 km/h.
Launch control, a model-specific steering setup and a special race mode are included in a bid to ensure an engaging driving experience. The German firm says ESC can be manually switched off when driving at the limit is required.
To bring this quick crossover to a halt, the automaker has fitted it with updated brakes.
The T-Roc R features a redesigned grille (complete with an aluminium band), which runs along the car's entire width; and a sportier front bumper. At the rear, air outlets in the upper part of the bumper and a double-ended exhaust system (on both sides of the rear) are found. To signal this is not your run-of-the-mill T-Roc, R badges can be seen on the outside and in the cabin.
Standard fitment further includes 18-inch Spielberg alloys, although 19-inch items, finished in dark grey matte paint (officially called "Pretoria Dark Graphite") can be specified.
Of course, in April 2018 Volkswagen told CARmag.co.za that the T-Roc (in standard and convertible guise) will not be destined for South African shores, which means there's very little chance of this R-badged version heading here.
